What We Like, and What We Don’t
Worth Having
- Prime plus 4% on purchases, with a published floor of 8.90%, which is the lowest rate here
- Cash advances and balance transfers at prime plus 8%, floored at 12.90%
- No fee for additional cards
- A minimum credit limit of only $500, so it is realistic for a thin file
- National Bank publishes no minimum income
Watch Out For
- The rate is variable and rises with prime, so today's 8.90% is not a promise
- It earns no rewards at all
- National Bank's own page shows a $0 annual fee while its regulated disclosure prices the card at $35
- The promotion on the product page expired in March 2026 and has not been refreshed
- No travel insurance and no purchase protection

The Earning Fine Print
No rewards program. Rates are VARIABLE and tied to National Bank's prime rate: purchases at prime + 4% subject to a stated minimum of 8.90%, and cash advances and balance transfers at prime + 8% subject to a stated minimum of 12.90%. The values in purchase_apr and cash_advance_apr are the published MINIMUMS, not fixed rates. The actual rate moves with prime. Minimum credit limit $500. Balance transfers require a minimum of $250.
What the Offer Actually Requires
The product page still displays a promotion dated October 1, 2025 to March 3, 2026 (first year annual fees refunded plus a $70 cashback bonus on $5,000 of net purchases within 12 months). That window closed before the date of this research, so no current offer is recorded. The promotion also contradicts the page's own $0 annual fee.

What the Benefits Really Mean
Purchase protection against theft or damage for 90 days; extended warranty doubling the manufacturer's coverage with a maximum lifetime limit of $60,000. 21 day grace period on purchases. Mastercard Zero Liability. Mastercard ID Check. No travel insurance. National Bank states 'No minimum annual income required, unlike other credit cards'. The rates are variable (prime + 4% / prime + 8%). The 8.90% and 12.90% figures are published FLOORS, not the current rate, and will rise with prime. The page publishes a $0 annual fee while simultaneously advertising an expired promotion that 'refunds the annual fees for the first year'. National Bank's own page is internally inconsistent, so the $0 should be re-verified before publishing. The promotional block on the page expired March 3, 2026 and has not been refreshed. Extended warranty carries a $60,000 lifetime cap that is easy to miss. The 2.5% FX figure comes from National Bank's general help centre, not from this card's own page.
Our Verdict
For somebody who genuinely revolves a balance, this is the cheapest card in the comparison. Prime plus 4% is roughly half the standard 21.99%, and the cash advance rate at prime plus 8% is lower than most cards charge on ordinary purchases. On $5,000 carried for a year that is around $650 saved.
Two warnings. The rate is variable, so it goes up when the Bank of Canada moves, and the 8.90% is a floor rather than a fixed rate. And National Bank contradicts itself on the fee: the product page says $0 while the regulated information box prices it at $35. We record $35 because the disclosure governs, and because a card advertising a first year fee refund is not a card with no fee.
Cards Worth Comparing This Against

Where this came from. National Bank Syncro Mastercard product page (annual fee $0 for primary and additional cardholders, prime-linked rate formulas and floors, no minimum income, benefits, expired promotion) and National Bank's help-centre page stating 'The fee for a foreign currency transaction on your National Bank credit card is 2.5%'.. We take every figure from the issuer’s own pages, never from another comparison site, and we leave a field blank rather than guess at it.
