How This Comparison Works
We track 245 Canadian bank accounts from 46 institutions, including 245 chequing, savings and business accounts. Of those, 99 charge no monthly fee and 78 include unlimited transactions. Every figure comes from the institution’s own page or its published fee schedule, and each account carries the date we checked it.
Ranking on a monthly fee alone is misleading, which is the reason this tool exists. A $16.95 account with unlimited transactions is cheaper than a $4 account with twelve included transactions for anyone who makes twenty five a month, and no bank’s fee page will tell you that. Enter how you actually bank and the list reorders on what each account would cost you in a year: the monthly fee, waived if the balance you keep clears the threshold, plus every transaction, e-Transfer and out of network ATM fee you would trigger, less the interest the balance earns.
What This Comparison Will Not Do
- It does not rate accounts. There is no score, no editor’s pick and no “best account”. The order is either alphabetical, or the answer to a question you asked.
- It does not treat a blank as a zero. 23 of these accounts have no published monthly fee, and they never appear under a “no monthly fee” filter. Where a fee the arithmetic needs is missing, the account shows what it costs on everything that is published, names the gap, and sorts below every account that can be costed in full. Otherwise a bank would rank higher for telling you less.
- It does not annualise a promotional rate. A three month teaser is shown on the account and left out of the interest calculation.
- It earns nothing from any institution listed. There are no affiliate links on this page. Every button goes to the institution’s own page.

- Which Canadian bank accounts have no monthly fee?
- 99 of the 245 accounts on this tab charge no monthly fee, and 25 of those also include unlimited transactions. A no-fee account is not automatically the cheapest one: an account with a fee that is waived by a balance you already keep can cost you nothing and include more.
- What is the highest interest rate here?
- KOHO Everything posts 3.5%, the highest posted rate on this tab as of 2026-08-19. That is the posted rate rather than a promotional one. Promotional rates are often higher and run for three to six months before dropping back.
- Is my money safe in these accounts?
- 174 of the accounts we track state deposit insurance, through CDIC for banks or a provincial insurer for credit unions. A handful of business "accounts" are not bank accounts at all: the provider is a registered money services business, and money held there is a claim against the company rather than an insured deposit. Those are labelled on every page they appear on.
- Why do some accounts say the cost cannot be worked out in full?
