The earning fine print

1.5 WestJet points per $1 on everyday purchases; 3 points per $1 on WestJet Vacations and Sunwing Vacations; 3 points per $1 on telecommunications, shipping and electronics; up to 6 points per $1 on WestJet flights, but the 6x rate requires WestJet Silver status. Earn_recurring is set to 3 for the telecom component. No annual caps published. Status Lift: earns tier-qualifying spend equivalent to $200 CAD per $5,000 in card purchases. WestJet points redeem 1:1 against the cost of WestJet flights; RBC and WestJet describe the 35,000-point welcome bonus as '$350 toward travel', i.e. 1 cent per point.

What the benefits really mean

Emergency travel medical has NO stated maximum benefit ('unlimited') for emergency treatment outside the cardholder's province, which is why ins_travel_medical_amount is null rather than a number. 15 consecutive days under 65, only 3 consecutive days at 65 and over. Pre-existing condition lookback 90 days under 75, 180 days at 75+. Trip cancellation $1,500 per trip to an overall $5,000 maximum; trip interruption $5,000 per trip to an overall $25,000 maximum. Auto rental collision/loss damage waiver to actual cash value, maximum 48 consecutive days, vehicle MSRP cap $65,000 CAD. Instant WestJet Silver status until 31 December of the following year, including priority check-in and boarding and lounge VOUCHERS via WestJet Rewards rather than a card lounge benefit; Silver is maintained with $30,000 of annual spend. Two free checked bags for the cardholder and up to 8 companions on the same reservation. 12-month DoorDash DashPass. Petro-Canada $0.03/L. Points pool automatically with the owner's personal WestJet Rewards account. Maximum 9 additional cards. Eligibility: $80,000 individual OR $150,000 household income OR $250,000 business revenue OR $25,000 eligible card spend OR $400,000 assets under management. THIS CARD WAS MISSING FROM THE BRIEF ENTIRELY. It is on RBC's own business credit cards index at $175/year and is the only airline co-brand business card RBC issues. AGE CLIFF: travel medical falls from 15 days to 3 DAYS at age 65. The shortest senior coverage window found in this segment. PERSONAL GUARANTEE: RBC's Business Credit Card Agreement states 'the Applicant is liable to us for all Debt charged to the Account' and expressly that 'a Cardholder is not responsible to us for the payment of any Debt'. On RBC's published documents the BUSINESS, not the individual cardholder, is the obligor. Requires_personal_guarantee is recorded false on that basis, but RBC does not publish whether it takes a separate owner guarantee at underwriting. Treat this as 'not published' rather than as a confirmed no-guarantee card. The 6x WestJet flight rate is contingent on holding Silver status, which itself needs $30,000 of annual spend (or is granted for the first partial year only). Lounge access is a WestJet Rewards Silver benefit delivered as vouchers, not a card lounge programme; has_lounge_access is recorded false. $75 per additional card with none free. A 5-person team costs $175 + $300 = $475 a year.

Our verdict

35,000 points on approval with no spending requirement is close to free money, worth about $350 at WestJet's own valuation, and it more than covers the first two years of the fee. For a business that flies WestJet, the 3 point rate on shipping, telecom and electronics is a useful set that most airline cards ignore.

Two things to read properly. The 6 points a dollar on WestJet flights is not the standard rate; it needs WestJet Silver status, which most cardholders will not have. And the travel medical drops to three days at 65, which for an owner over that age means the insurance on a $175 card is effectively not there. Employee cards at $75 each also make this expensive for a team.
