What we like, and what we don’t
Worth having
- No annual fee and one additional card included free
- A variable rate starting at prime plus 2.9%, well below a standard business card
- Earns half an Avion point a dollar, which is more than most low rate cards
- The same rate applies to purchases, cash advances and balance transfers
Watch out for
- RBC publishes only a range, prime plus 2.9% to 11.9%, and does not say who gets which
- The top of that range is worse than an ordinary business card
- Only two cards are permitted per company, so it cannot serve a team
- The earn rate of 1 point per $2 is about 0.5%
- A 2.5% foreign transaction fee

What the benefits really mean
This is a revolving line of credit delivered as a Visa card. Purchase Security protects purchases against theft, loss or damage for 90 days; Extended Warranty doubles the manufacturer's original Canadian warranty for up to one extra year. Optional travel insurance is available for purchase, it is not included. Maximum 2 cards per company (1 primary plus 1 additional), both at $0. RBC's Business Credit Card Agreement gives this product a distinct cash advance fee schedule: no fee at RBC ATMs in Canada, $3.50 at other Canadian ATMs, $5.00 outside Canada. Foreign currency markup 2.5%. NO FIXED APR EXISTS. RBC publishes only a variable formula: 'From Prime + 2.9% to 11.9%', assigned on credit approval. Purchase_apr is recorded as NOT PUBLISHED rather than as a number, because any single figure would be invented. The same formula covers cash advances and balance transfers. Only 2 cards total per company, so this cannot serve a team. The 1 point per $2 earn rate is half the rate of the RBC Avion Visa Business and the weakest Avion earn rate RBC issues. Travel insurance is optional and paid, not included. Do not tick any travel insurance field. PERSONAL GUARANTEE: liability sits with the Applicant business per RBC's agreement; no owner guarantee is published.
Our verdict
The bottom of the range is excellent and the top of it is not. Prime plus 2.9% is among the cheapest business borrowing on a card in Canada, and the same rate applying to cash advances is unusual and valuable. But RBC publishes prime plus 2.9% to 11.9% without saying how the assignment works, so the rate you are quoted is the whole story and you do not learn it until you apply.
We record no APR at all for that reason rather than printing the best case as though it were the rate. The two card limit is the other constraint: this is a card for an owner and one other person, not a team, and any business that needs a third card has to look elsewhere.
