What the benefits really mean
This is a BANKING PACKAGE that bundles a business card, not a standalone card, the $17/month buys the package. Its distinguishing feature is the lowest published interest rate in the Desjardins business line, prime + 3.5% to prime + 8%, tiered by credit profile. Mobile device insurance up to $1,000, purchase protection and extended warranty. MEMBERSHIP-BASED RESTRICTION: requires a Desjardins business relationship; caisse network is effectively Quebec and Ontario. Annual fee: $17 per month for the package (includes 1 card) = $204/year. Free employee cards: 0 to 1 card is included in the $17/month package; each additional card is $3.50/month ($42/year). The issuer publishes a formula rather than a purchase rate: "Prime rate + 3.5% to 8%". We leave the rate field empty rather than publish arithmetic the issuer never published. The issuer publishes a formula rather than a cash advance rate: "Prime rate + 3.5% to 8%". We leave the rate field empty rather than publish arithmetic the issuer never published. Priced monthly ($17/month = $204/year), which reads cheaper than it is next to cards quoting an annual fee. Only one card is included; every employee card adds $42/year. The attractive prime + 3.5% is the bottom of a range that tops out at prime + 8%. You may not be offered it. Requires an existing Desjardins business relationship.
Our verdict
The rate is the reason this exists. Prime plus 3.5% is well below the prime plus 8.5% on Desjardins' other business cards and below almost every fixed rate business card in this comparison, so a business that revolves a balance is materially better off here.
Price it honestly, though. $17 a month is $204 a year, which is more than most premium business cards charge, and it buys a banking package rather than a card. If you want the banking anyway that is fine. If you only want the card, you are paying $204 for one card with employee cards at $42 each on top.
