What we like, and what we don’t

Worth having

  • A flat 1% on every purchase with no bonus categories to track
  • Scotiabank explicitly states there are no annual caps on the 1%
  • No annual fee and no fee for additional cards
  • Cash back does not expire while the account is open
  • 10% cash back on the first $1,500 of purchases in the first three months

Watch out for

  • The 10% welcome rate is capped at $1,500 of purchases, so the maximum payout is about $150
  • The welcome cash back does not pay out for roughly seven months
  • There is a $25 minimum redemption threshold
  • No travel insurance and no lounge access
  • Scotiabank does not publish a foreign transaction fee for this card

The earning fine print

Flat 1% cash back on all eligible purchases with no bonus categories. Scotiabank explicitly states there are 'no annual caps' on the 1% rate and that cash back does not expire while the account remains open. Minimum $25 redemption threshold. Contrast with the $79 Scotia Momentum for business Visa, which pays up to 3% but caps the 3% and 2% categories at $40,000 of combined annual purchases.

The welcome offer

What the offer actually requires

Scotiabank advertises '10% cash back on your first $1,500 in purchases within the first 3 months'. The cap is expressed in DOLLARS OF SPEND, not dollars of reward: the maximum total cash back is $150, of which $135 is the incremental 9% bonus over the standard 1%. Bonus_tier1_amount is recorded as the $135 bonus component, the conservative reading. Offer available for accounts opened between 17 August 2026 and 28 February 2027. Bonus cash back credits approximately 7 months after approval if the account remains in good standing.

What the benefits really mean

Mobile Device Insurance up to $1,000 CAD. Purchase security and extended warranty protection. Minimum credit limit $5,000. Shell fuel partnership worth up to 6 cents per litre in combined value. Visa Spend Clarity for Business expense tracking. No travel insurance. Scotiabank's own business credit card comparison page lists this card's rates as 21.99% purchases / 23.99% cash advances, one full point above the $79 Momentum for business Visa. CAP EXPRESSED IN SPEND, NOT REWARD: the '10% cash back' headline is capped at $1,500 of PURCHASES, so the maximum payout is $150 total ($135 above the base 1%). This is the exact pattern flagged in the brief. The bonus does not pay out for about 7 months after approval. No-fee status is paid for with a purchase APR of 21.99% versus 20.99% on the $79 sibling card. Scotiabank does not publish a foreign currency conversion fee for this card. Its published disclosure for the $79 Scotia Momentum for business Visa states 2.50%, but that document does not cover this product and the figure must not be carried across. Scotiabank does not publish any personal guarantee statement for its business cards on the product pages, and its posted Scotiabank Visa Business Card Cardholder Agreement contains no guarantee clause. Recorded as NOT PUBLISHED rather than false.

Our verdict

An uncapped 1% on everything with no fee and no fee for employee cards is the cleanest offer in the business segment. Most free business cards pay 0.5% base, cap the good rate, or both. This one pays the same rate on the first dollar and the hundred thousandth, and Scotiabank says so in writing rather than leaving it to a terms document.

The welcome offer is the one place the marketing oversells. Ten percent cash back sounds enormous and is capped at $1,500 of spending, so the most you can earn is about $150, and it does not arrive for about seven months. Take the card for the ongoing 1%, not the headline. If your spending is concentrated in specific categories, Scotiabank's own $79 Momentum for business pays 3% on several of them and will beat this above roughly $5,000 of category spending.
