What we like, and what we don’t
Worth having
- A 16.99% rate applying to purchases, cash advances and balance transfers alike
- That is well below the 22.99% cash advance rates elsewhere in the segment
- 1 Circle Rewards point a dollar, described by Servus as 1% back
- Points never expire
- Trip cancellation and common carrier cover included
Watch out for
- Every employee card costs the full $75, the worst employee economics in the segment
- A four person team pays $300 a year in card fees
- The 16.99% is variable and moves with prime
- Servus publishes no cents per point value, so the 1% is their description rather than a rate we can verify
- Alberta only

The earning fine print
1 Circle Rewards point per $1 spent, described by Servus as '1% back in Circle Rewards points'. Points never expire. Servus does not publish a fixed cents-per-point redemption value on the product page, so point_value_cents is null.

What the benefits really mean
16.99% VARIABLE rate applies uniformly to purchases, cash advances AND balance transfers. Unusual, and meaningfully better than the 22.99% cash advance rates elsewhere in this segment. Insurance: trip cancellation $3,000; common carrier accidental death/dismemberment $1,000,000; car rental collision damage waiver; car rental accidental death/dismemberment; personal effects insurance; purchase assurance and extended warranty. NO travel medical insurance. Insurance underwritten by American Bankers Insurance Company. UNDERWRITING: Servus reviews business financial statements and personal financial information. Directors and business owners must provide corporate documents, two years of Notices of Assessment, business financial statements and personal net worth statements, which is materially heavier documentation than any fintech in this segment. PROVINCE: Servus Credit Union operates in Alberta only. Extras include Virtual Gurus support and an H&R Block partnership. Free employee cards: 0. Every additional card is $75 per year, the same as the primary card. Every employee card costs the FULL $75. The same as the primary card. A 4-person team pays $300/year. This is the worst employee-card economics in the segment. The 16.99% is a VARIABLE rate, not fixed, it moves with prime. No travel medical insurance despite $1M common carrier AD&D. Requires two years of Notices of Assessment, business financial statements and a personal net worth statement, a heavy documentation burden. Alberta only; requires Servus membership. No published cents-per-point value for Circle Rewards.
Our verdict
The interest rate is the good part. 16.99% applied identically to purchases, cash advances and balance transfers is three points below the segment norm on purchases and six below it on advances, which for a business that occasionally needs cash is worth more than the rewards.
The employee card pricing undoes it. Every additional card is the full $75, not a reduced supplementary rate, so a four person team pays $300 a year against $60 at ATB or nothing at Vancity. If you are a sole operator the rate makes this worth considering. With staff, Servus's own free Business No Fee Mastercard has the same 16.99% rate and free employee cards.
